Student visa applicants under age of 18

If you will be under 18 years old when you submit your Student visa application, you will need to provide a parental consent letter and proof of relationship during the CAS process, which will also be used in your Student visa application.

Parental Consent Letter

The Parental Consent Letter is a signed letter from your parent(s) or legal guardian(s), confirming that they give their consent to you regarding;

  • Your visa application
  • Your living and care arrangements in the UK
  • Your travel to and reception arrangements in the UK – if the application is for entry clearance

The letter must also include;

  • Your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) names and contact details
  • Your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) signatures – it is important that these are hand-signed
  • Who has legal responsibility/sole custody for you; if only one parent or legal guardian has sole custody or legal responsibility for you, then that parent or legal guardian must confirm this in the letter and sign it. If both of your parents or legal guardians have sole custody or legal responsibility, then both must sign the letter to evidence their consent.

Please use our Under 18 parental consent letter template available to download here. Please replace the text in red with appropriate information applicable to your circumstances. Then please turn all text colour to black, save as a PDF, and send to the IAS team either by submitting it with your CAS request form or emailing it separately to immigration@gold.ac.uk including your name and Student ID number in the email. We will check this and let you know if any amendments are needed.

Proof of Relationship

You must also evidence your relationship to your parent(s) or legal guardian(s). This can be evidenced by one of the following documents:

  • Your birth certificate – that shows the names of your parent or parents
  • An adoption certificate – that shows the name of your parent or parents
  • A court or government-issued document naming your legal guardian(s)

It is important that you also provide:

  • Copies of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) passports

Please send the completed Parental Consent Letter, evidence of your relationship to your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) and also copies of your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) passports to the Immigration Advisory Service, as we will check these documents to ensure that they meet the UK Visas and Immigration requirements during the CAS process.

You must also include these checked documents in your Student visa application once you have received your CAS document from our team.
